This past weekend I decided to be brave and step in front of my own camera for some maternity self portraits. I believe documenting pregnancy through photographs is so important. Every child's story begins here, in the womb. Mothers begin to form a bond for the unborn child and truly love them long before ever meeting them. It's wonderful to be able to look back on your maternity portraits along with your children and tell them all about how they grew inside you. The little one growing inside me now is such a marvelous miracle and our second rainbow baby. This baby was conceived shortly after losing another around 11 weeks. I cannot even begin to tell you what a roller coaster of emotions this pregnancy has been! It has been scary, exciting, risky, but most of all... it has been incredibly healing for us all. We never expected to conceive right away, but that's exactly what happened as soon as we were cleared to try again. There is no doubt in my mind, that this child was meant to join our family. And while this pregnancy does not erase the pain of the one we lost, it helps us to accept that which we cannot understand. Seeing as this the last time I will ever carry a baby in my womb, I wanted to make sure that I had photographs to look back on. I want to be able to tell my little rainbow how he (or she) was the calm after the storm, who brought bright colors back into our lives after the grey clouds had gone.

Oh my sweet friend, I am getting all the goosebumps from your words! I will be praying for you and your family as your little one takes the steps needed to join you so soon! The power you have to talk about such beautiful joys after what I would imagine to be very painful -- I admire you for it. You look incredible as a mama.
