It's been three months since baby No.5 joined our family. This is us in the photos below, taken by my sweet husband who will oblige to jumping behind the camera whenever I ask. In the beginning of my third trimester with this last pregnancy, I decided not to take on anymore newborn sessions, due to my health. I felt it was best to take it easy for the remainder of the remainder of my pregnancy and of course, thru the recovery phase.
Six weeks postpartum rolled around and I began working from home again, working on collabs. A couple weeks ago, I went back to shooting families and maternity sessions again, but have not photographed a single newborn. I thought that as the weeks went by, I would slowly go back to the workload I was used to before. I now find myself in the same position I did when I had my first baby—with a desire to scale back from work and dedicate more of myself to motherhood.
If motherhood has taught me something, it's to adapt with the changes children bring. So here I am, announcing an early retirement from newborn photography. While I will surely continue to photograph babies and children during family sessions, newborns, baby milestones, and cake smashes will no longer be offered as stand alone sessions.
With this new change, maternity clients can return for a family portrait session any time once baby is a month old. Parents wishing to have photos of baby's first birthday done by me must book a family session and can bring a cake for smashing toward the end. And as always, I will continue to include a few individual photos of every child during family shoots.
Current clients who have secured an upcoming session with a deposit will remain on my calendar as scheduled, so no need to worry. I am ever so thankful for each and every family who has trusted me to capture their little babies these last few years. Childhood is so fleeting and I want to spend these days enjoying my own little ones to the fullest.
My fall calendar is open for bookings, with limited availability remaining for August and September. Reach out for more information on a session with Tender Nest Portraits. Session pricing can be found under the information tab. I would love to begin planning your customized session for you and your family.
I've been photographing this little guy since before he ate solids. When his first birthday approached, his mama had the amazing idea to use donuts in place of a birthday cake and it was absolutely glorious! Our birthday boy was so into it and relished in the deliciousness. I just love when babies dig in like that!
A birthday portrait session doesn't have to include a cake smash. Baby's (or mom & dad's) favorite food can be used instead. Is your little one really into cheerios? We can put him in a bowl of them! Or maybe you prefer to not feed your baby any processed foods. In that case, a medley of her favorite fruits and veggies could be super fun! The possibilities are truly endless and food smashes don't have to be limited to just the first birthday, they can be fun at any age

I love the intimacy of Welcome Earthside Sessions. I get to witness many wonderful first moments like daddy changing a diaper for the first time or mommy breastfeeding her brand new blessing. I get to see older siblings meet their new baby and grandparents welcome their new grandchild too. Sometimes I even get to photograph the newborn baby's homecoming. Other times I simply capture the interaction between the new parents and their baby as they bond.
So, what exactly is a Welcome Earthside Session? It's a special session for families wanting to document their freshly born baby's first moments without imposing on their sacred birth space. Think of it as a lifestyle session that takes place within 48 hours of baby's arrival and can be done in the hospital, at a birthing center or in your home during daylight hours. This option is available to mothers delivering in the Cypress, Katy, or Northwest Houston area.
Unlike posed newborn sessions, there are no props involved. I encourage parents to dress baby and themselves in simple, neutral outfits to keep a fresh look throughout the session. My wonderful hair & makeup artists are available for mom at an additional cost to help ease the stress of getting ready for photos.
