A few weeks ago, the family and I had the opportunity to visit The Cage Houston, before its official opening to the public. The Cage, is a family owned and operated baseball training facility & batting cages indoor. It is the first of its kind in the heart of the Houston Heights, conveniently located near downtown Houston, and easily accessible from Loop 610.
This cool space with an urban-industrial vibe, was built by a Houston dad and his wife, who are passionate about America's favorite pastime and dedicated to providing a quality facility within the city. While this establishment is team focused, it can also be a great place for off season training, for baseball players of all skill levels wishing to perfect their techniques.
The best thing about The Cage is that, unlike fields, it can be used in any weather. Even on days when we experience all four seasons at once - which is typical of Houston. Rain, scorching heat, or heavy humidity, are no longer excuses for cancelling practice at the last minute. Which means baseball moms can rejoice knowing their calendars and schedules will not be shifted around. Though if your child's team practice will be held here, I recommend arriving early to avoid a long hike. Parking is limited. On the plus side, there are two tv's, so you could send the hubby instead and he'd never have to miss out on watching the home team play for the win!
I must confess that my favorite feature is actually the amazing mural of the Houston Astros, created by commissioned local artist, Frankie Cardona. You can enjoy the arts and support a small business, while also enjoying your family's favorite sport. It's a win-win for all!
The Cage Houton is all set for its Grand Opening on May 14th, with the ribbon cutting ceremomy being held at 4pm, and you are invited. See you there!
