Sweet baby K celebrated her First Birthday with a Cake Smash Session in my Houston studio. During the photoshoot I found out that her mama and I are actually from the same hometown. No wonder we got along so well instantly! She is also an editorial model and an amazing makeup artist. Given her work experience, she is not a newbie to prepping for a portrait session. They came fully prepared for baby K's photoshoot. I was so excited to see that this mommy had a great selection of outfits, accessories, and even some party decor to use as photo props.
I think that as parents, specially moms, we get way more excited about that First Birthday than baby is and that's okay. Chances are baby won't remember their first birthday and as the years go by, you will start to forget the details too. That is exactly why booking a First Birthday or Cake Smash Session is so important, because years from now when your baby is no longer a baby, you will continue to have these photographs to look back on and remind you of that very important milestone. While the Cake Smash is tons of fun for baby, the First Birthday Session is also a wonderful celebration for you as the parent. It's a little gift to yourself to say "I made it through my first year of parenting!" Let's face it, the first year is a toughie, celebration is in order for sure. Besides who doesn't love looking at pictures of an adorable baby eating cake? Maybe you have a healthier lifestyle and don't necessarily want your baby eating a sugary cake, that's alright. There are many variations to this fun session. It could be a bowl of cheerios, baby's favorite food, or even a cake made of fruit, the possiblities are endless. Or we can skip the food eating portion altogether and just photograph First Birthday portraits instead. My goal is simply to capture your adorable little baby's fun personality as they celebrate their first year of life!
